Floating seal walls

Working in cooperation with its mother company OHLA, SATO has developed the necessary knowledge to build floating seal walls braced against the seabed for use in water depths over 50 meters. These dikes, among other advantages such as saving materials and running costs, reduce the effect on the seabed and on the posidonia meadows.

To meet this goal, OHLA and SATO technicians developed a (one of a kind) mathematical model for a floating dock, later tested on a large-scale physical model, to study all the process variables, showing great potential to compete with the traditional dike designs in deep-water areas (> 40 m) or in zones with environmental restrictions.

The developments were made in two successive projects, jointly funded by CDTI, working with the El Pardo Hydrodynamic Experiences Channel to run the tests.
